Napoli reach agreement to sign striker Cavani

Napoli have reached an agreement with Palermo to sign striker Edinson Cavani, according to Sky Sport 24.

The two Serie A sides reportedly came to an agreement this morning as Napoli will obtain the player on loan for the 2010-11 season and then pay a fee of €16 million (£13.4m) to complete the transfer next summer.

Cavani, ranked 557th in the Castrol Rankings, has continually impressed since his arrival in Serie A in 2007. He had a successful 2009-10 campaign alongside Fabrizio Miccoli, bagging 13 goals with the Rosanero in 31 appearances.

The 23-year-old also featured six times for semi-finalists Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup, finding the net in the third-place play-off versus Germany.

The only remaining obstacle is to negotiate terms with Cavani himself, but the deal is nearly official.

The player had also been linked with Manchester City and Inter over the past few months, but it appears the Partenopei have beaten them to the punch.
